The dictionary definition of a phobia is an irrational fear of a given situation, organism or object.
The fear persists even though we can rationalise it and tell ourselves not to be afraid.
Where does this fear come from?
As with most phobias there is usually an event from the past which has caused the sensitivity.
It is not usually consciously known to us, however our subconscious mind is well aware of the cause.
All our memories and habits good and bad are stored in the subconscious mind.
Because of the complex way the mind works our particular fear may seem to have no connection to the original event.
For example someone afraid of flying may have been afraid as a young child when they had accidentally been locked in a room.
The locking in the room was the sensitising event.
The emotion that is related to that incident is held in the mind and when they are in a situation again where they do not have control.
eg flying, these old feelings are triggered.
Flying activated the fear.
Hypnotherapy can find the cause, release it and help conquer the fear, freeing you from that problem which will no longer affect you in the same way.
